Oak and Beech Forests

The magic of the enchanted forests, of the towns where there are still countrymen who sow the occasional meadow; that irrigate the orchards, that harvest potatoes, and in the fountain it is possible to find bundles of hazel branches softening in the water to be worked. It is true that everything changes, that nothing remains, but walking through the streets of these towns, we hope that the transformations continue to understand their character and the rich personality of this corner, Bausen, Canejan, Sant Joan de Toran, Porcingles, Pontaut towns in one of the wildest and most unexplored valleys of the Val d’Aran allow us to imagine how life passed in this place just a few years ago.
Its roads were used as the main smuggling route, they were also the fastest exit to France for the ore that was extracted, from the Liat mines at 2,300m altitude, by a 14km aerial cable line, to Pontaut.
A walk with a great wealth of vegetation where ash trees, oaks, maples, lime trees or cherry trees and shrubs such as broom, brambles, ferns, blackthorns or wild roses stand out.
Beech, fir and black pine forests on the slopes of Monlude where you can hear the peculiar song of the capercaillie or the “bellow”, the mating snore of the deer.
